Western Sierra Dome Climbing Tour

Ryan and I decided to escape the Covid filled world and go on a Western Sierra Dome Climbing tour.

Day 1: 5/23/2020 Tollhouse Rock
We decided to give pregnant multi-pitch climbing a try beginning with Tollhouse Traverse. A 4 pitch 5.5 climb. It took us no time at all and we basically ran up it. 2.5hrs car to car. That's when we knew it wasn't impossible and we could continue safely on this adventure. Being 27 weeks pregnant it was unclear how much I could do but we knew I wanted to try. I wanted so bad to move my body and keep active, specifically keep climbing. If you can't snowboard you gotta climb in my world. We left Tollhouse to bivy at Fresno Dome which was the next days objective.

Day 2: 5/24/2020 Fresno Dome
We woke up in the morning and made coffee with a big breakfast. Waiting on our friends Dylan and Nina with no cell service and just a bit of hope they'd find our camp we ate and listened to music. Soon they arrived and we finished our morning to hike out to the dome. After a short walk we descended to the bottom of the dome and picked our climbs. Ryan chose to lead us up the 5.7 route called South Pillar. 4 pitches of non-stop fun and quality rock. The views were fantastic and it wasn't to difficult to do pregnant. The rock was awesome and had lots of cool features. Chicken heads, face climbing, and fun traversing with slight exposure. High stepping and high reaches are probably the most challenging things these days so luckily there was only one tricky move at the start. We were behind a slower party which made navigating the constant need to pee while pregnant on a multi-pitch another fun adventure to figure out but we got through it. At the top we reconvened with Dylan and Nina to make our way back down and back to their house for dinner.

The next day was a much needed rest day at the river. After a day of swimming we drove down to Dome Rock to meet with more friends and do some more climbing.

Day 3: 5/26/2020 Dome Rock
After a good night's sleep we woke up and I wandered to the top of the dome. I came back down to make breakfast and Emily and Matt showed up. We discussed the days adventure and decided to wait until afternoon to climb in hopes it'd cool down. We decided to climb Tree Route a 4 pitch 5.6 route that we did in 3 pitches. It was fun enough but wasn't that challenging and not a climb I'd say would be on the repeat list. After returning to camp we ate food and decided what we should do. We agreed that going to the river and checking out the hot springs sounded much nicer than climbing more. The springs were quite crowded but the river was really nice. We camped down the road for the night and said our goodbyes after breakfast to return home and plan for our wedding.
